January 02, 2020 - Good weather and great motivation led to a PR!
My training leading up to this race has been centered around increasing my speed, with speed runs, tempo runs, and distance runs, intermingled with my HIIT workouts 3 times a week. I have steadily seen improvements in my speed. I ran a 10k on 28Dec19 and PR'ed with an avg pace of 8:27 min/mi.
On Wed 01Jan20, I ran a virtual 10k with my brother and his wife. The weather was cool, around 50F. Our course was mapped out and relatively flat. I started out fast and then settled into a comfortable, but aggressive pace. In the end, I finished in 51:23 (8:18 pace) and a new PR! Very pleased! Almost all my training is solo, so I credit some of my success to running this with my brother, who is a bit faster than me. I'm also pleased to finish with no injuries or issues to address.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the race result and the progress to getting faster. Next goal is the Katy Half Marathon in early Feb.
