IM Boulder

Altitude Kicked My Butt

Well, I just got my butt kicked at IM Boulder. The air temperature in the morning was 45 and water temperature was 67...freezing for me. The high temp for the day was only 61.  I now have a new found respect for mountains and altitude. This Ohio boy is not used to training in thin air and 4000 foot climbs. I started to become nauseous around 56 miles on the bike course and then battled it all the way through the run. As I was going through T2, this was the first time I had ever considered quitting... I felt terrible; almost like I had the flu. But I gritted through the 26.2 mile run/walk. At one point, I even had a Medic provide something for nausea because I felt so horrible. However, faith (with many little prayers along the way), perseverance and Infinit I made it to the finish line. It wasn't pretty, but I finished. I'm proud to say that I completed the LAST Ironman 140.6 to be held in Boulder. No more mountains for this guy!
